LayersMagazine
in retrospect
Layers Magazine was a print magazine specializing in generalized themes of art, music, politics, protest, social issues, sex, drugs, poetry, literature, history, and war. The project was started in the winter of 2001 as an outlet for personal interests, artwork, design, photography, and writing. A total of four mammoth issues were published from 2001 through 2006 with the fifth and most ambitious issue never seeing the light of day.
The printing and construction of the original Layers Magazine format was halted after costs led to bankruptcy in 2006. Although no more work was put out in the original Layers Magazine format, print work continued to be released under the title of The Layers Magazine Pocket Book Series. Whereas the original Layers format averaged 150 pages per issue in a standard 8.5 x 11 size ratio, the pocket books focused on a single subject and averaged no more than 15 pages per book at a size no bigger than a CD booklet.
All print forms of Layers Magazine were put to rest in early 2008 and in mid 2008 Dope Sick Radio was born from its ashes.
This special feature to the website showcases some of the work published under the title of Layers Magazine. Enjoy. - Brian James/ Dope Sick Radio
